Henry "Mike" Whitfield

April 1, 1952 - April 19, 2021

Henry Michael “Mike” Whitfield, 69, transitioned from this life on April 19, 2021 at North Kansas City Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Henry was born on April 1, 1952 in Lorain, Ohio to Andrew and Vinester Whitfield and grew up in Lorain where he attended Lorain City Schools and graduated from Admiral King High School in 1970. After graduating, Henry joined the Armed Forces where he served in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1979 as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist and served during the Vietnam War before receiving an honorable discharge after his service time was up. He was very proud that he served his country and was a Vietnam Veteran.

After serving in the Air Force, Henry attended Lorain Business College where he obtained his Associate Degree in Business, majoring in Micro-Computer Administration on June 20, 1985. Henry began working for Ford Motor Company as an Inspector/Auditor in 1989 in Lorain before transferring to Kansas City, Missouri in 2005. Henry retired March 1, 2020 after working 31 years for the company.

Henry gave his life to our Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at Compassion Baptist Church on February 11, 2001 in Lorain, Ohio. Henry was also a member of Victorious Life Church in Kansas City, Missouri where he was ordained as a Deacon of the church on January 27, 2019 and on August 14, 201 he received his Certification of Continuing Education from Aenon Bible College, Inc & The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc for International Deacon Accelerated Certification Symposium. Also, Henry received his Certification for Executive Board Training at Victorious Life Church on March 15, 2020. As a member of Victorious Life Church, Henry served on the Deacon Board, Usher Board, and was a member of Brothers of Service Security which was also known as BOSS.

Henry married the love of his life Denise S. Armstrong on October 17, 2004 in Lorain, Ohio and were happily married for 16 years at the time of his passing.

Henry enjoyed bowling, billiards, and was an avid Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

Henry is survived by his spouse, Denise of Gladstone, Missouri; his daughters, Erica Michelle Whitfield of Gladstone, Missouri, Ashley Nicole Whitfield of North Ridgeville, Ohio and son, Michael Andrew Whitfield of North Olmsted, Ohio; his sisters, Marie (Thomas) Wilson, Lendia Whitfield, Theresa Whitfield, Sheran Whitfield, André Whitfield-Gage all of Lorain, Ohio, Mary Ann Whitfield of Canton, Mississippi and Debra (Emmanuel) Conrad-Beauford; his brother, Charles “Gene” Whitfield of Sandusky, Ohio; his nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends along with his fur “son” Felix Blu Whitfield.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Vinester Whitfield, his brother Johnnie B. Whitfield and sister, Anner Lee Whitfield.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 5 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. at God’s Believers in Christ (formerly Compassion Baptist Church), 520 W. 22nd St., Lorain. Social distancing and wearing a mask are required.

Interment will be Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery.
