Bishop James D Owens

September 10, 1967 - September 1, 2020

Bishop James D Owens, 53, of Columbus Ohio, made his transition from earth to his heavenly home on Saturday, September 12, 2020, surrounded by his loving wife, at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital after a lengthy illness.

James was the first of 7 children born and was born September 10, 1967 in Lorain, Ohio to James (Jimmy Dell) Owens and Brenda Joyce (née Charlton) Owens.

James attended Clearview City Schools and graduated from Clearview High School in 1985. James excelled in sports with his athletic abilities and broke many state records in tract, and in basketball he was named “All City.”

James attended Tabernacle of Christ (Cathedral of Praise) during his youth with his mother Brenda. He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour at the Apostolic Church of the Living God (New Life Deliverance) under the leadership of Pastor Allie H. Stevens in 1986. James, being a friend of the Taylor family, met and married his wife Marsha on July 3, 1989 and they were blessed with five children, 3 boys and 2 girls.

James entered the United States Army where he excelled as an expert in many fields. He was trained as a financial specialist. He served overseas in Korea and was honorably discharged from Fort Louis, Washington in 1991.

He enjoyed music, teaching, traveling, studying the Word, and sports. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he loved so very deeply and dearly.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 31 years, Marsha Owens (née Taylor), 3 sons; Maurice (Victoria) Owens, Josiah Owens, and Jacob Owens, 2 daughters; Briana and Meagan Owens, 2 grandchildren; Merci and Aariah Owens, and 5 siblings; Joseph (Sandra) Owens, Judy, Jamesha, Jeffery, and Kawanna Cash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Brenda Joyce Owens, and a brother, John Owens.

A walk-through public viewing will be held Sunday, September 20, 2020 from 6-9 PM at New Life Deliverance Ministries, 400 Washington Ave, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Monday, at 11 AM.

A private family burial will be at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
