Thelma Ann Jones

February 14, 1951 - September 10, 2020

Thelma Ann Jones, 69, of Oberlin, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday September 10, 2020. Thelma was born on February 14, 1951 in Myrtlewood, Alabama and had lived all her life in Lorain County. She graduated from Oberlin High School and attended Lorain County Community College.

She was member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Oberlin where she served on the usher board and sang in the choir. She was also a Sunday school teacher and part of Sisters of Wisdom. She retired from the Lorain Ford Motor Company plant in 2006 after 30 years of service. She was a volunteer at the local food banks and homeless shelters, and was a voting poll worker.

She enjoyed traveling, going to parks, and playing bingo.

Thelma is survived by her two sons, Martin Pope and Victor Jones, and step-son Robert Jones; two grandchildren, Kayla Henson and Markel Jones; her siblings Charles Pope, Diane Pope, and Donald Pope; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and uncle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jones; parents Richard E. Pope and Anna L. Pope; brothers Larry Pope, Gregory Pope, and Richard E. Pope III; a sister, Rusa C. Yarber; paternal grandparents Richard E. Sr. and Hannah Pope; and maternal grandparents Lawrence and Nancy Haynes.

A walk-through public viewing will be on Thursday, September 17, 2020 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 2652 Broadway Ave, Lorain OH 44052. A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, September 18, 2020 at New Russia Township Cemetery, 12528 Oberlin Road, Oberlin OH, with Pastor Fred Bell of Mt. Zion Baptist Church officiating.

Social distancing and COVID-19 safe practices are required; must wear a mask.
