Grady McDonald

November 21, 1932 - February 20, 2020

Grady McDonald, 87 of Sandusky, Ohio entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Cleveland Clinic in Avon, Ohio.

He was born November 21, 1932 to Ailey and Edna McDonald in Waynesboro, Mississippi and relocated to Sandusky in 1952. After relocating, he became a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Fred Tucker, Pastor Emeritus Eddy N. Henry and Pastor Curtis L. Johnson, Jr. He previously served on various church ministries and was a faithful member.

He attended Waynesboro High School and began his working profession with Farrell Cheek Co., Sandusky, Sandvick Motors Co., Norwalk, and New Departure Hyatt, Sandusky. In April 1973, his dream of entrepreneurship began with the creation of McDonald’s Car Wash and Snow Removal. This business afforded him the opportunity to provide employment for many individuals for the next 42 years of service to the community for the city of Sandusky, Ohio.

Grady was a member of many civic and community organizations including the Sandusky NAACP, Chamber of Commerce and Salvation Army and National Carwash Association. He also served on the Board of Directors for the former Citizen’s Bank for 14 years as well as Vice President for the Western Division of the Ohio Car Wash Association.

Grady loved antique cars and for many years he would showcase them in the annual Memorial Day Parade.

Grady is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Bobbie; three children: Kelvin Irby, Columbus, OH, Sandra McDonald, Atlanta, GA and Karen McDonald, Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren: Janell (Calvin) Thomas and Dania (Gary) Kenty, both of Columbus, OH; two great grandchildren: Garrison Kenty and Graydan Kenty; 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Pearlie Crowell, Dewitt (Ella) McDonald, James McDonald, Fred McDonald, Willie (Edward) Aaron, all of Sandusky, and Robert (Pat) McDonald of Columbus, OH; his brother and sister in-laws: Vera (Jesse) Jackson, Las Vegas, NE, Retired Colonel P. Lee (Sandra) Harvey, La Plata, MD and Joe (Eloise) Harvey, Sandusky, OH; special nephew Charles Jackson and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death an infant son, Gary L. McDonald, his parents Ailey and Edna McDonald and his sisters Ethel (Artie) McMillan, Gladys (Luther) Henson and Marie McDonald.

Viewing hours will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1920 Shelby Street, Sandusky, where Pastor Curtis L. Johnson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
