Cleo D Abram

October 26, 1929 - January 9, 2019

Cleo Ida Mae Dickason Abram, 89 years old, an Oberlin resident for 50+ years, transitioned into the arms of the Lord on January 9, 2019 while in the Ames Family Hospice House of Western Reserve, Westlake, Ohio.

The oldest of four sisters, Cleo was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on October 26, 1929. In 1954 she and her future husband graduated from Bluefield State College where she received her B.S. in Education. In her early collegiate years, she became a proud Soror of Beta Pi Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

After teaching for a short time, Cleo chose to assume the position of Secretary for Oberlin High School where she received a ‘plaque of appreciation for 31 years of service.

She is predeceased by her husband, George A. Abram; parents, Mason Dixon and Hattie Dickason; sisters: Betty, Panzene and Ruth.

Through her quiet and unassuming demeanor, Cleo leaves as her legacy her devoted children and grandchildren, her love of home and community, her sense of style, her sense of humor, her compassion/empathy and her infectious smile.

Remembering her with love and deepest affection are her children: Gregory (Amanda) Abram, Deborah (James) Young, Gail Abram (caregiver for her Mom) and son-of-the-heart, Terrence Allen; grandchildren: Dominique (Laurie) Moran, Bryan Valentine (Britny Andulics), Jasmine Young and Samuel Abram; great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Hannah, Dominic, Terrell, Paris and Beckham; sisters-in-law: Kathryn, Carrie, Doris, Betty and Drema; treasured friends and neighbors of Prospect Street, Oberlin High School and beyond; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 10:00 AM up until time of service at 11:00 AM at Mt Zion Baptist Church of Oberlin, 47 Locust St., Oberlin, OH 44074. Pastor Kevin Coleman of Community United Methodist Church of Elyria is officiating. Burial will follow in Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin.
