Sarah Frances Rogers

Sarah Frances Rogers, nee Leonard, 81, of Lorain, passed away Monday August 7, 2017 in University Hospital Elyria Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

She was born April 11, 1936 in Woodland, Georgia where she was baptized at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church. She attended Woodland Public Schools and had been living in Lorain, Ohio since 1958. She retired from Lithonia Down Lighting in Vermilion, Ohio after 20-plus years of service.

Sarah had a youthful spirit and was devoted to her family, whom she loved dearly. She also loved shopping, going to different malls, and listening to music, including R&B, blues, and gospel. Her favorite gospel song was “Cooling Water.” Sarah also enjoyed cooking, traveling, and being a beautician.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Carolyn Wendy (Todd) Rogers-Lash, Marion Woody (Rosalind) Rogers Jr., Constance “Connie” Rogers, and Christopher “Chris” Rogers Sr., all of Lorain; daughter-in-law, Lucille Leonard of Manchester, GA; 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; her siblings, Alline Jones and Johnnie Mae Hardnett of Woodland, GA; Norris (Mary) Leonard of Decatur, GA; Wardell (Lynne) Leonard of Fayetteville, GA; Roberta Johnson and Leroy (Mary) Leonard of Atlanta, GA; a cousin who was like a brother, Willie James (Mae) Leonard of Detroit, MI; a dear sister-in-law, Martha Pye of Lorain; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Woody Rogers Sr.; a son, Carrian “Cal” Leonard; a granddaughter, Chaka Nache Leonard; her parents, William H Leonard Sr. and Maggie Mae Leonard (nee Owens); and brothers, Willie Frank Chaney Sr., James “Bill” Pye, and William Henry Leonard Jr. “Junior”.

Visitation will be Friday August 18, 2017 from 10AM until time of service at 11AM at Greater Victory Christian Ministries, 559 Reid Ave, Lorain. Rev. Marilyn Parker-Jeffries of New Creation Baptist Church is officiating, and Elder Darrell Shumpert of Greater Christ Temple Church is eulogizing. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
